The 35 elected members of the Association of family forest owners Nepal (AFFON) were elected from different political parties. The local elections were held for municipal and Village assemblies. Mayors and vice Majors were elected.

Nepal has witnessed a huge political shift within few decades and is undergoing a process of institutionalising democracy and decentralising setting up local governments.

The family forestry association in Nepal (AFFON) was founded in 2015 and became from the start a member in the International Family Forestry Association IFFA. Jog Raj Giri, the chair of AFFON, is a board member of IFFA.

AFFON has always believed in political access for achieving the rights of family forest farmers. AFFON expects that it will be easier to work for family forestry priorities by participating at the local government level.
